The world of job hunting for school leavers today is hard, especially if they are not sure what they want to do – or indeed if they are not sure what qualifications they need for certain jobs.
That is why careers fairs, hosted by schools, universities and colleges, are so important.
And that is why we at Sheldon Bosley Knight like to go along to talk to young people about all the amazing careers and employment options there are within a business like ours.
So, this week, our director of commercial, Tony Rowland, set out his stall at the Stratford Girls’ Grammar School careers event.
Hosted by the school for students in Key Stages 4 and 5, it was a chance for them to speak to businesses and employers about their companies, what they do, what job opportunities there are and the qualifications required for particular roles.
During the evening Tony spoke to a huge number of students and their parents who visited his stand and was impressed with the questions, interest in the business and requests for work experience.
He said: “These events are so important, not just for the students to find out more about different careers, but also for organisations to showcase who they are and what they can offer a young person thinking about their options.
“The students kept me on my toes, asking pertinent questions and I am delighted we will be able to offer work experience opportunities for some of them this summer.”
