Why move to Coventry?

Coventry is a vibrant medieval city, sitting on the River Sherbourne and in the heart of the West Midlands. Boasting two universities, large parks, leisure facilities, shopping centres and a proud heritage in car making, it is a firm favourite with young people, families and those who love and enjoy all a busy city has to offer.

Although in recent years the city has moved away from its manufacturing businesses which it was famed for such as the car industry, it has diversified towards business services, research, design and the creative industries, providing plenty of employment opportunities. It was extensively bombed during the Blitz including its ancient cathedral. The new cathedral, designed by Sir Basil Spence was built next to the old one and was consecrated in 1962. Coventry was granted the UK City of Culture in 2021.

Coventry is easy to get to and has accessible road and rail routes to the nearby towns of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Leamington and Birmingham. It is close to the M40 and M42 allowing access to larger cities such as Manchester and London. There are regular bus services to Warwick, Kenilworth, Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington and trains to Birmingham, Kenilworth, Coventry, Leamington and London. Not only that, the Warwickshire countryside is within easy reach and the picturesque Cotswolds are about an hour’s drive away.

Coventry has a wealth of good schools both state and private making it a great place for families. These complement other schools, both private, grammar and state, in the towns of Warwick, Leamington and Rugby which are all within easy commuting distance.

Those who love sport will love Coventry! From football to rugby, there is plenty to get stuck into. Coventry Football Club, the Sky Blues, famously won the FA Cup in 1987 and they stayed in the top flight until relegation in 2001. There are two rugby union and one rugby league team, ice hockey and American football teams which call Coventry home. Coventry Speedway can be found at Brandon Stadium and there are plenty of amateur sporting and leisure clubs throughout the city including catering for everything from tennis to swimming, netball to hockey.

Coventry is a vibrant city with a great atmosphere. Boasting a large student population there are plenty of nightclubs, bars and restaurants as well as the Belgrade Theatre and Albany Theatre, cinemas, bowling alleys and music concerts held at the Coventry Building Society Arena. A little out of town is the Warwick Arts Centre on the University of Warwick Campus which boast a whole host of cultural events from cinema to theatre, comedy to music.

There really is something in Coventry for every age and every budget!
Although much of the city was rebuilt after the war, there are still some period properties in some of the sought-after areas, alongside newer builds.

The housing stock is thus varied and there is something for every budget from flats to terraced houses, to period, characterful properties to mansions and everything in between. Given its location, job opportunities, excellent road and rail links, good schools, and a thriving and buzzing community, it’s little wonder Coventry is a desirable and sought-after place to live.

Coventry is blessed with a thriving retail offering with lots of independent shops and businesses alongside the high street chains. It also boasts lots of well-regarded cafes, pubs, restaurants and hotels alongside supermarkets, post offices and other important amenities.
