Matt’s coronation medal from the King

When he’s not wielding the gavel and presiding over one of our in-room or online auctions, our auctioneer Matt Burrows can be found volunteering for Hereford and Worcester Army Cadet Force.

A former officer in the British Army he has been a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer of the Army Cadet Force (ACF) for 16 years and it is something he is extremely passionate about, spending weekends and free time mentoring the young cadets.

His role as Assistant Commandant (Plans) enables him to support and shape the experience of the young people through the ACF, helping them develop confidence, resilience and leadership skills which will serve them for life.

It is as a result of his dedication, commitment and service as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer with Hereford & Worcester ACF that he was one of more than 50 who were presented with a prestigious King’s Coronation Medal on Saturday.

Matt said: “Volunteering with the Cadets is both a responsibility and a privilege, and I’m proud to be part of an organisation that makes such a meaningful impact on the next generation.
“It is also a huge part of my life outside my professional career as an auctioneer. Working alongside like-minded people who are passionate about investing in the next generation is incredibly rewarding.

“The ACF provides young people with unique opportunities they might not otherwise have access to, and I’m proud to play a part in that.

“Receiving the King’s Coronation Medal is not just a recognition of service, it is also a commemoration of a historic event of national significance.”

Sheldon Bosley Knight custodian, Mike Cleary, said: “Everyone at Sheldon Bosley Knight is absolutely thrilled for Matt. His dedication is second to none, he gives so much to so many people and so this is thoroughly deserved.

“I am absolutely delighted for him and we send him huge congratulations.”

The King’s Coronation Medal dates back to 1603 when King James I first issued commemorative medals at his coronation. Over time, these medals have been awarded to individuals in public service, the Armed Forces, and key contributors to national events.

King Edward VII introduced a formal distribution process in 1902 to ensure proper recognition of service.

The 2023 Coronation Medal, issued to commemorate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, honours those who have made significant contributions to their country. It is awarded to individuals in professional or voluntary roles within public services, including the military, police, fire service, and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, with a minimum of five years of service and regular attendance.
