A week in the life of the planning and architecture team

In July our planning and architecture department welcomed Tyler, a Year 12 student from Chipping Campden School, for a work experience placement.

With ambitions of becoming an architect, Tyler joined the team to gain insight into the real-world application of planning and design.

Throughout the week he explored how planning policy and architectural design come together to shape places and communities.

He accompanied team members on site visits, took part in discussions on live planning applications and developed draft scheme plans for a barn conversion project.

His enthusiasm, attention to detail, and thoughtful approach were evident from the outset.

Toward the end of the week, our sales team reviewed Tyler’s design and discussed how specific architectural choices can influence the market value of a development. They also offered guidance on how to refine the scheme to maximise value for the client, providing Tyler with valuable insight into the commercial considerations of design.

Sheldon Bosley Knight’s senior architectural technician, Charlie Cartwright, said: “Tyler was a real asset to the team.

“He asked great questions, showed genuine curiosity, and quickly grasped the relationship between planning constraints and creative design. For someone still in school, his confidence and focus were really impressive.”

Sheldon Bosley Knight’s associate director, Natasha Blackmore da Silva added: “It was a pleasure to support Tyler as he takes his first steps toward a career in architecture. We wish him every success in his future studies and look forward to seeing where his journey takes him.”
