Women in Construction Week

Women in Construction (WIC) week is an annual, global event which celebrates the achievements of women in the construction industry. It highlights their contributions, promotes diversity and inclusion and aims to inspire future generations by showcasing opportunities available in the sector.

WIC week also traces the history of women in construction, their challenges, and the ways they’ve been able to overcome them. It offers the opportunity to raise the profile of the industry as one hungry for greater diversity and pushing hard for change.

WIC data reveals only 16% of the sector’s current UK workforce is represented by women. This is in comparison to 75% who are working in the health services and education.

However, the number of women employed within the industry is growing as are the number of opportunities for them to do so.

This year’s theme, Keys to the Future, celebrates the strength and knowledge of women and the vital role they play in shaping the future of this industry.

At Sheldon Bosley Knight we recognise our own role in accelerating the drive for change and for promoting the industry to the next generation.

This Wednesday (March 6) our planning and architectural team will be among those attending a careers and apprenticeship fair at Myton School in Warwick. It will be a chance for the students to find out more about the sector, the various different careers within it, the routes into it and the support available for young people interested in it as a career.

Visit WIC for more information about how to make a career in the construction industry.
