Big jump in Boxing Day sellers

A record number of new sellers put their property up for sale on Boxing Day.
Rightmove said it saw a 46% jump in new listings on the bank holiday compared with the previous year.
Prospective sellers also got ready for a New Year move, with the number of people contacting estate agents to value their home between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day the highest number recorded in a week since early September. Rightmove said the valuation requests were 29% higher than the same period in 2021.
The week of December 26 saw the number of views of homes for sale on Rightmove jump by 20% compared with the previous week.
Sheldon Bosley Knight’s sales manager Morgan Rhys said: “We are not surprised by these figures as we find the lull between Christmas and New Year a great time for both buyers and sellers.
“Despite the economic uncertainty over the past few months, there are still plenty of buyers out there.
“For anyone thinking of putting their home on the market, we would encourage them to visit one of our offices or call us so we can give honest and helpful advice.”
