Talking houses

One of Sheldon Bosley Knight’s senior sales valuers will be sharing his knowledge of the housing market at an event next week.

Ian Watts will be speaking to Warwick Society members and the wider community about the buying and selling process of property as well as how he got into estate agency.

He will also be showcasing what is happening in the Warwick and Leamington housing market as well as giving advice about how to find the right agent, questions to ask of them and what to be aware of when instructing an agent.

The invitation to the event, which takes place at 7.30pm at St Mary Immaculate Parish Hall, West Street, Warwick, on Tuesday, February 10, came about from a former client of Ian’s.

He said: “A client I had helped asked me to give a talk to the Society’s members following a house I sold for him.

“It wasn’t plain sailing and there were a fair few obstacles to overcome, but neither of us were prepared to give up, and we communicated well throughout the process.

“I’m delighted he asked as I love the town, it’s my home and I know the area inside out. The market here is super busy for family homes which are near to schools and as there is so little stock it’s incredibly competitive.

“Anyone who knows me, knows I just genuinely try my best in what I do, I’m honest and love understanding peoples’ journeys, what has made them take the step of selling and I genuinely get a buzz from helping people out.

“I’m asking for audience participation from the very first sentence, but the talk will be loosely based around how you go about choosing an estate agent to sell your home, what to ask and what to be aware of.

“But I really do want to asked questions every step of the way so it could go off down some interesting rabbit holes – I hope!”

Ian, who started his estate agency career in 2003 in central London, has been in the local area working since 2006 when he and his family moved to Warwick.

He said: “A good friend of mine was a manager of a firm near to Hampstead and he said I would make a cracking agent.

“At that time I was working in a school in North London with the pipedream of becoming a mentor to young children, but that’s a whole other story…..!

“I absolutely love what I do. No two days are the same, I meet some incredibly interesting people and being able to help and advise those who are on their property journey is a dream job.

“I can’t wait to impart some of my knowledge with this talk, as well as sprinkle in a few anecdotes along the way!”
