Shipston-on-Stour is renowned for a number of annual events and festivals, notably the Shipston Proms music fortnight, which this year reached its 21st year anniversary.
Sheldon Bosley Knight has been a regular supporter of the Proms and were delighted to sign up again this year as a Gold Sponsor. Our sponsored event for 2019 was the Fame Contest, a regular feature of the Proms that provides local young people the opportunity to showcase their musical talent.
As ever, the standard of entrants was very high with the Judges eventually selecting Kathryn Packer as the winning soloist and The Shipston High Jazz Band (which also features Kathryn on vocals and piano) in the band category.
We would like to congratulate the Proms Committee for another fantastic fortnight of musical events and look forward to supporting again in 2020.
The Sunday Times has recently listed Shipston-on-Stour as one of the best places to live in the UK.
The newspaper used data and statistics, plus crime rates, house prices, school performance and the expert knowledge of their writers, to consider the places that offer the best quality of life.
“If you want to live in Shakespeare Country but don’t want to elbow your way through tourists in Stratford-upon-Avon, try Shipston. Just 10 miles south of the Bard’s birthplace in the same pleasant landscape, the town has its own cultural highlights, including the two-week Shipston Proms, with live music of all sorts, culminating in a final night in the town square. The former coaching stop has a great high street, with several old pubs and a population passionate about keeping its traders going. It recently became a ‘Totally Locally’ town, joining a growing list of places coming up with initiatives to keep their high streets thriving.”
Of course all those who already live there will no doubt agree.
