Dumbleton Cricket Club wins permission for new pitch

On April 19, 2022, Sheldon Bosley Knight’s planning team obtained planning consent for a new cricket pitch in Tewkesbury district. The pitch, proposed as a result of the increased take up of cricket in Dumbleton by younger players, will be within the grounds of Dumbleton Hall.
An ever-increasing programme of cricket in the village made it impossible for the existing facilities at Dumbleton Cricket Club on Dairy Lane to accommodate the level of home matches required each season. The new pitch will enable the club to cater for these additional matches and offer all their teams the opportunity to play at “home” in Dumbleton.
Although the council’s case officer recommended the application for approval, there were concerns the proposals would harm the setting of the listed Dumbleton Hall and the wider Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so the application was determined at planning committee.
Members of the committee agreed any potential harm would be minimal and would be vastly outweighed by the public benefits of an additional cricket pitch in the village. They elected to approve the proposals with a majority of nine votes
