SBK’s Rob volunteers at the Nick Mowl Cup raising money for charity

Coronation weekend was special for a great many reasons. As well as cheering the new King, we were also celebrating Rob from our marketing team who, alongside some friends, volunteered to help run the Nick Mowl Cup (NMC) at Solihull Moors Football Stadium on Saturday May 6.

Organised by Rich Beale (West Bromwich Albion U21 Coach) the charity six-a-side football tournament is an annual event in memory of Nick Mowl who tragically took his own life six years ago.  It also raises funds for Kaleidoscope Plus Group, a mental health charity, in Nick’s memory.

Since Rich and a group of Nick’s friends began the NMC five years ago they have raised more than £50,000 pound for Kaleidoscope Plus Group. The money also helps fund a text helpline for anyone feeling how Nick did, to text confidentially TeamKPG’ on 85258.

The tournament is a fun-packed day with ex professionals Gareth Barry, Darren Carter, Stylian Petrov to name but a few, corporate sponsors and a whole team of volunteers lending their support to raise money and awareness for such an important cause.

Age and ability are no barriers to competing in the event and there is always a real buzz to see who will lift the now infamous Nick Mowl Cup.

Maybe next year a team from Sheldon Bosley Knight will compete!
