The popularity of self and custom build housing

Sheldon Bosley Knight is fast becoming an expert in the emerging self and custom build housing markets. 

These two housing models give buyers the principal design input into the construction of their homes rather than buying off larger developments from house builders where there is little or no choice on the design and layout of the dwellings as well as the finishing specifications.

On a traditional self-build project, you are responsible for finding a suitable plot, employing an architect to work with you to design the property, applying for and securing the necessary planning permissions and arranging all the services. You are then able to build a home to your exact requirements and specifications.

With custom-build projects all the upfront hard work is already done by a developer who has prepared the site for sale and secured the planning permissions required and installed key infrastructure such as roads and utilities.

Likewise our new homes department can help on the custom build projects by sourcing the sites and working with the developers.

We have recently completed a sale in Wellesbourne to modular home buildings, Youngman Lovell, for a development of 10 dwellings.

Other schemes include land at Alderminster, Halford and Cropthorne coming on the market as well as a number of others at various stages in the planning process.

There are self and custom build housing registers in every local planning authority and we would encourage those with an interest in taking on projects of this nature to register themselves for new opportunities as they arise.
