Meet the team – Charlotte Wright

Charlotte Wright joined Sheldon Bosley Knight 18 months ago as one of our residential sales negotiators in Pershore. Despite a somewhat unconventional route into the property industry, she has hit the ground running to become one of our rising stars. Not only has she proved to be indispensable in the office, but she has also created a bespoke training guide for a junior member of staff to help with their on-going training and development. In recognition of her talent and hard work, last month she was promoted to senior negotiator. When she’s not working she loves going to the gym, hanging out with family and is currently planning her wedding next year.

What is your Sheldon Bosley Knight job title and where are you based?

I am senior negotiator in the residential sales team based in Pershore.

What does your job entail?

No day is the same but typically while Alan [Metcalfe] does the market appraisals (MAs), I do a lot of the work behind the scenes. This involves speaking to our vendors, keeping them updated as to the progress of their sale, sharing offers with them and getting those offers over the line. I also introduce buyers to new properties and make sure we are doing what’s best for them. I am very organised so I make sure everything in the office flows and everyone is ready for their day.

The other element of my job is spending time with Nareece, our negotiator. When she arrived I took her under my wing and have helped train her and make sure she is supported in her role both emotionally and work-wise. As part of this I created a bespoke training manual for her. Generic training methods don’t always work for everyone so it was important to me to tailor it to her specific needs. She’s been with us for three months and it’s worked wonders as she refers to it all the time and says it’s really useful. Alan was really impressed because not everyone would take the time to do that. I love the training aspect of my job and making sure everyone is happy.

How did you get into the property industry and how long have you worked within it?

After school I went to college to get my Level 3 in Children and Development and following a placement in a nursery, they offered me a job. I loved it there and worked my way up to be senior manager, but after a few years I realised it wasn’t the career for me although I wasn’t sure what was. While I was considering my next step I worked as a debt collector. This was challenging but really rewarding because trying to help people who were in difficulties was something I was passionate about. Eventually I saw a job advertised for an estate agent in Evesham, applied and got the job. I knew it was right. I was there for nearly two years before moving to Sheldon Bosley Knight 18 months ago. Last month I was promoted to senior negotiator. It’s so nice to be appreciated and recognised, not just for doing the job but going above and beyond.

What attracted you to working for Sheldon Bosley Knight?

The values of the company and seeing how staff are recognised, supported and encouraged. There are lots of people in the business with so many specialisms and it’s inspiring to be around people who are experts in their fields. I plan to be here long term, further myself with training and development and really find my niche.

What’s the best bit about your job?

I love the training aspect of my role and the fact I work in such a great team which supports each other. But undoubtedly the best bit is the negotiation, getting the offers accepted and seeing the process through to getting the keys on completion. It’s so exciting and I get a great feeling when I’ve helped people sell their home or find their forever home and fulfilling their journeys.

What qualifications or training do you need to do this job?

When I got my first job in Evesham they trained me and I have had more training here. I seemed to pick it up really quickly! I’ve learned so much since I’ve been at Sheldon Bosley Knight and Alan teaches me a lot. I plan to start gaining my formal qualifications soon.

Who or what motivates you to work hard?

Our team has received so many positive reviews and that in itself is hugely motivating. Ensuring the communication between the team and our clients is always there, making sure I am always available and if I can do anything to help or take the stress away, I will do it. However, my family is undoubtedly my biggest motivation. My mum decided to change career when she was 36 and train to be a nurse, my sister applied to be a police officer in her early 20s and my other sister has her own business. Seeing what they have accomplished pushes me to be just as good as they are in my career and hopefully make them proud. My mum is now qualified and at 44 she’s the happiest I’ve ever seen her. She inspires me every day.

What are your career goals?

I’m very much an “in the moment” type of person. Right now I am just happy doing what I’m doing, working hard and increasing my knowledge and skills. I can’t see myself doing anything else, but the possibilities here at Sheldon Bosley Knight are endless and that’s very exciting.

What do you do when you are not at work?

I love going to the gym and am there most days. Currently, the rest of my free time is organising my wedding as Rob (my fiancé) and I are getting married next March. I’ve got mood boards, ideas for flower arrangements, table decorations and a home made wedding cake – it’s a real DIY wedding!  It’s a lot of fun and am finding my creative side but I seem to be permanently covered in glue or paint!

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?

Always be the best version of yourself you can be. Also not to be afraid to change careers and follow your heart. I have never felt more proud than in what I’ve accomplished at Sheldon Bosley Knight and I’m really lucky as Alan is my biggest supporter. He gets me and pushes me to be the best I can be and is the best manager. I would definitely give that advice to Nareece. She came here completely fresh and wasn’t afraid to take on this role.
