What is your Sheldon Bosley Knight job title and where are you based?

I’m social media manager – predominately based from home in Leicestershire, interspersed with days spent at the Leamington office with the rest of the marketing team, and attending staff meetings.

What is your role and what does your job entail?

My role is to work with all the different offices and areas of Sheldon Bosley Knight to try and showcase the huge range of things we’re achieving across the company within our social media pages. I think the assumption may be amongst the public we only handle property sales and lettings but it’s so much more than that. You’d think there would be a typical day with me just focusing on the social media but with the company growing at a rate, every day is different, which I enjoy.

What did you do before this job?

Up until I joined Sheldon Bosley Knight I worked as the pr and marketing manager for Andrew Granger & Co in Leicestershire, for four and a half years. My role involved working with the different offices and teams to provide the social media, blogs, marketing items and press releases. Andrew Granger & Co became a part of Sheldon Bosley Knight last year.

How did you get into your chosen career and how long have you worked within it?

It was a recruitment agency which thought I’d be perfect for pr 16 years ago, and the rest, as they say, is history. There’s a lot of creativity needed in this line of work – whether it’s the writing, selecting images, bringing an idea together, as well as teamwork, and I really enjoy that.

What attracted you to working for Sheldon Bosley Knight?

I was offered an amazing opportunity to grow the Sheldon Bosley Knight social media pages and I wanted to challenge myself and give it my all to see what a difference I could hopefully make. Also, the marketing team is an amazing bunch of people I instantly connected with and that’s such an important part of enjoying your job.

What’s the best bit about your job?

Aside from the people I work with, just seeing an idea come together because you’ve had a hand in writing it and pulling all the elements together, and then the engagement on the post itself.

What qualifications or training do you need to do this job?

There are lots of courses and training available for careers in social media but it’s also an area you can work your way up into by getting hands on experience within the industry.

What motivates you to work hard?

It’s always been important to me to know I can always say I tried my best, regardless of what I’m doing, and in the workplace, I obviously strive for results for the company. Social media is such a huge part of day-to-day life now and I’m working hard to ensure SBK is represented well in this area as another tool to grow the business.

Who or what inspires you?

I just hope my daughters, husband, and family feel proud of me.

What are your career goals?

I’ve never looked ahead. I just focus on the now and doing the best I can, and I know what will be, will be. I’m still happy, getting to grips with my role and I feel it could be ever-evolving so I’m just excited to see what that brings for now.

What do you do when you are not at work?

When I’m not working or on ‘mum’ duties, I love the simple things – getting outdoors with the family and our two dogs, cooking for family and friends, lighting the fire and enjoying a glass of wine (or three!) whilst watching a film. One day, when I have a bit more time to myself, I’ll exercise more and pick up the art and creative projects I seemed to put down about 15 years ago…

Career highlights

The role at Andrew Granger & Co was a huge milestone for me as a few years prior to that I’d have never thought I’d be able to do it. But I’ve learnt and gained experience from every role I’ve had, good and bad, and grown with it. To also be told certain clients chose to use Andrew Granger & Co based on the social media posts made me feel very proud.

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?

Make sure you choose a job you love as it will show in your work and never feel like work. Also, treat people as you’d expect to be treated yourself – both colleagues and clients.
