Meet the team – Ed Abrams

Meet Ed Abrams who has recently joined Sheldon Bosley Knight as senior associate within the professional services team, based in Stratford-upon-Avon. He has already hit the ground running in his wide-ranging role, advising commercial landlords and tenants and undertaking valuations for both residential and commercial assets. A lover of the great outdoors, when he’s not working Ed loves exploring new places and spending time with his young family.

What is your role and what does your job entail?

My job covers a wide range of tasks so I don’t tend to have a typical day. I undertake a variety of valuations of both commercial and residential assets for a range of purposes such as secured lending, proposed acquisition and capital gains/inheritance tax. I also represent and advise landlords and tenants in the negotiation of rent reviews and lease renewals of commercial properties. The recent acquisition of Loveitts created a fantastic opportunity to expand the services provided by Sheldon Bosley Knight whilst retaining the Loveitts brand which is well established across the West Midlands. I have the pleasure of working with several clients who have been managed by Loveitts for many years.

What did you do before joining Sheldon Bosley Knight?

Prior to joining Sheldon Bosley Knight I worked for a smaller firm of chartered surveyors and health and safety consultants operating across the UK. I joined in 2020 during lock down as a senior surveyor and was promoted to associate in 2022, responsible for managing the professional services team. This included undertaking a high volume of valuations and condition surveys of both residential and commercial assets. I also worked with a range of care and educational clients, offering general consultancy and project management services.

How did you get into the property industry and how long have you worked within it?

Following university, I went travelling and held several sales and marketing roles before focusing on a career in property. In 2015 I joined the Birmingham office of a regional property firm as a property analyst and shortly afterwards became a trainee surveyor in the investment team. In 2016 the company was acquired by Savills and I enrolled on their award-winning graduate programme. Throughout this time, I gained experience in multiple departments including the valuation team where I undertook Red Book valuations for predominantly loan security purposes. After becoming a member of the RICS in 2019, I joined the development team where I acted on behalf of a range of clients regarding acquisitions and disposals of commercial assets and development sites within across the Midlands.

What attracted you to working for Sheldon Bosley Knight?

Having lived in Warwickshire for nearly 10 years I relished the opportunity of joining the leading land and property firm within the region. The company’s wealth of expertise offers clients a professional and personalised service from start to finish which is something I am very passionate about.

What’s the best bit about your job?

I really enjoy the variety of my job and feel lucky to work alongside a great group of experienced property professionals.

What qualifications, skills, experience or training do you need to do this job?

I achieved a first in my business management undergraduate degree in 2010 and later achieved a Masters in Real Estate, shortly before becoming a member of the RICS. I am also a registered valuer. This registered valuer scheme offers protection and confidence to our clients, ensuring all valuations are compliant with the Red Book which is an internationally recognised standard.

What motivates you to work hard?

I believe you never stop learning, so I strive to deliver the best advice to my clients whilst delivering the highest standard of service.

Who or what inspires you?

I am inspired by my family, in particular my wife who has supported me throughout my career in the industry and my late father who taught me the importance of hard work.

What are your career goals?

I aim to take on the responsibility of managing the professional services team and become a director.

What do you do when you are not at work?

When I am not at work, I am usually playing with my two young boys who are my world! I enjoy good food, being outdoors and exploring new places.

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?

Every experience, positive or negative, contributes to your career growth.
