Meet Jimena Fejer, who has recently joined us as architect, based in our Stratford-upon-Avon office. She joins the planning and architecture department after having gained experience working on projects in both Spain and Singapore. When she’s not at work, she loves being with her three children and indulging in her creative and artistic passions which include travel, reading and dancing.
What is your role and what does your job entail?
As architect, I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of architectural design and project delivery for residential developments — from the initial client brief through to construction on site. I enjoy the dynamic nature of my role, where no two days are ever the same. Our projects are diverse, ranging from extensions to listed buildings to the conversion of agricultural structures into dwellings. This variety constantly challenges and engages both my creative and technical skills.
What did you do before this job?
Before joining SBK, I was working as a freelance architect in the residential sector. Prior to that, I spent five years in Spain working as an architect, followed by another five years as an exhibition designer with GSM Project in Singapore, where I specialised in museum design.
How did you get into the property industry and how long have you worked within it?
My first experience in residential architecture was during a summer internship at the internationally renowned firm Rafael de La-Hoz in Spain. It was a large-scale residential scheme where collaboration played a crucial role in the project’s success. Under the guidance of experienced architects, I gained invaluable skills that have continued to shape my approach. Since then, residential projects have remained a consistent and central part of my career.
Are there any aspects of Spanish architecture you wish could be incorporated into British architecture?
I wish I could bring some of the innovation, texture and detail of outstanding projects that are being developed by contemporary Spanish offices nowadays.
What attracted you to working for SBK?
What initially drew me to SBK was the diversity of its project portfolio. The combination of industrial and domestic-scale developments offers unique opportunities for creative and meaningful architecture — especially within the beautiful rural and semi-rural settings in which we often work.
What’s the best bit about your job?
The best part of my job is being able to design, visualise and plan how existing spaces and environments can be improved and then work collaboratively with highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals to bring those ideas to life.
What qualifications or training do you need to do this job?
I completed both my degree and master’s in architecture as part of the path to becoming a fully qualified architect, prior to registering with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).
What motivates you to work hard?
My motivation comes from several sources: a constant drive to grow and improve as a professional; a strong belief in the value of delivering high-quality results; and the understanding that through hard work, we not only achieve excellence but also inspire and support those around us.
Who or what inspires you?
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with exceptional mentors and colleagues — intelligent, creative and courageous individuals who continue to inspire me daily. Their passion, insight and commitment to excellence have shaped my own approach and motivate me to keep learning and growing.
What are your career goals?
Right now, my career goals are all about growing in three key areas while advancing through professional development. First, I want to keep improving my skills with the latest design tools and technologies, especially BIM and 3D visualisation. Second, I’m working on building even stronger relationships with clients by sharpening my communication and negotiation skills. And third, I really value teamwork, so I’m focused on helping create a collaborative and supportive environment within our design team.
What do you do when you are not at work?
Outside work, I’m a busy mum of three young children, so much of my free time revolves around their activities and interests. That said, I still enjoy making time for my own passions — I love travelling, learning about different cultures and history, reading and dancing whenever I get the chance. I used to do Ballet and Jazz until I went to Uni which I loved. Nowadays I would go for Latin rhythms for fun! My favourite place to travel to is Buenos Aires, Argentina where I was born. I lived in Singapore for five years and did not have the chance to visit Australia and New Zealand so those are destinations on my bucket list.
What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?
If something feels like a challenge, face it head-on. Tackle it first thing in the morning, rather than putting it off and letting it become a burden. Taking small steps can make even the biggest challenges feel more manageable.
