Huge congratulations to Leamington Swim Club and Leamington Rugby Football Club (LRFC) Extras who competed in important events this weekend.
LRFC stormed to victory in their Warwickshire 2nd XV Shield cup match in Harbury on Sunday beating the Shipston-on-Stour team by 26 to 10, ending their 30-year wait for county silverware in the process.
Leamington showed their powerful attacking intentions from the off and were 7-0 up after only five minutes thanks to forward Lewis Kelsey and Jim Robertson. Within 10 minutes they were 14-0 up and their relentless pursuit of dominating the game continued with Shipston struggling to gain any advantage.
With 30 minutes gone, Leamington had a 26-0 lead thanks to excellent line outs, a penalty, tries and conversions. But Shipston came alive and put pressure on the Leamington squad. Despite this, the score remained at 26-0 at half time.
When the game resumed Shipston upped the ante and spent much of the time camped in Leamington’s half but the standard of defending was too much.
It wasn’t until 20 minutes in that Shipston got its first score on the board, making it 26-5. A further 15 minutes later Shipston breached the line again and brought their score to 10.
When the final whistle went it was Leamington who picked up the trophy, worthy winners of the silverware.
Elsewhere, Leamington Swim Club took on swimmers from across the country at the National Arena League Swimming League Finals in Cardiff on Saturday, am incredible achievement for a club of Leamington’s size. Although they didn’t win, they deserve huge credit for getting to the finals and competing against some extremely strong teams.
Sheldon Bosley Knight is proud to sponsor both clubs and would like to extend congratulations to everyone involved on their amazing achievements!
