Moreton Show 2019

Sheldon Bosley Knight - Sponsor of Moreton Show 2019

Sheldon Bosley Knight were very proud to once again sponsor the Moreton Show, which this year was celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The Moreton Show is a highlight of the agricultural show calendar and given our strong rural agency roots it is always a highlight of our annual calendar too.

Moreton Show Sept 2019

We were delighted to sponsor the Livestock Area on Show Day and the Best Cotswold Shepherd competition which will be awarded in February 2020.

This year, events in the Grand Arena came to a spectacular conclusion with one of the biggest parade of champions.

The Grand Parade was a breathtaking display of cattle, sheep and goats which had the commentator full of praise for British farming.

Moreton Show 2019

Mark Cleverdon, from Wittersham in Kent, a renowned livestock auctioneer and Moreton Show regular who commentates at several shows throughout the summer, said: “I see a better line-up at Moreton Show than anywhere else. It is exceptional.”

Inside the produce marquee, Sheldon Bosley Knight’s Sarah Baldwin from the Block Management Team was busy judging the preserves section. Sarah, who is an official WI Cookery Judge, really enjoyed her task and said afterwards “I was judging the preserves, so as you can imagine after 2 hours in that tent I was on a real sugar high and needed copious amounts of coffee!

Moreton Show 2019

When asked about her judging credentials she said “you need a love of food, patience (lots of it, especially if someone doesn’t win who thought they should have), and you have to attend a very intensive course at WI College after you have shadowed other judges for 12 months. Being a WI member helps but you don’t have to be”.

A number of other Sheldon Bosley Knight team members also attended the show and really enjoyed the day which attracted a record number of entries and features the very best of British Farming and the countryside.

Sheldon Bosley Knight would like to congratulate the organisers on the success of this 70th Anniversary Show and we are already looking forward to next year’s event on 5th September 2020.

Evesham Regatta 2019

Sheldon Bosley Knight were delighted to sponsor the 2019 Evesham Regatta which took place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May. The annual event organised by Evesham Rowing Club has been held every year since 1864 and attracts competitors from clubs as far away as Poole, Northampton, Cardiff  and Huntingdon. This year over 400 crews took part, ranging in age from young teenagers to adults in their 70s.

The regatta was a great success and despite the chilly wind, the weather remained dry and provided great entertainment for both competitors and spectators alike, with the occasional mishap and capsize into the water to add to the drama and excitement.

Tony Rowland accepting his prizeSheldon Bosley Knight sponsored 4 races during the course of the weekend. Tony Rowland from our Evesham office who is a keen rower himself, and a member of the rowing club committee, won a coveted ‘Evesham Pot’ in one of the races, which he promptly filled with beer to celebrate!

The Regatta is supported by many local businesses and volunteers and all funds raised are ploughed back into the Club, some of which is used to fund their ‘Learn to Row’ programmes for juniors and adults to learn the basic skills of rowing.

Swalcliffe Park British Eventing Horse Trials 2019

Laura Gaydon of SBK with Swalcliffe HT winner Christina Wiederkehr

Laura Gaydon of SBK with Swalcliffe HT winner Christina Wiederkehr During the weekend of 16th and 17th March 2019, Sheldon Bosley Knight sponsored a BE100 section of the British Eventing Horse Trials at Swalcliffe Park, near Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Nearly 500 competitors competed over the weekend with classes ranging from BE80(T) (training), BE90 and BE100.

For a one day event competition, competitors perform a dressage test in front of a judge, jump a course of show jumps and then follow a cross country course of rustic fences including banks and a water jump, over a specific distance and within an optimum time.

In the Sheldon Bosley Knight BE100 section, 40 riders took part and the competition was won by Christina Wiederkehr riding her own Lilas Girl, an 8 year old 16.2 hh grey mare.  Christina won the section with a 27 dressage score and double clear in the show jumping and cross country phases with no time penalty, giving her a total score for the three combined phases of 27.

Winners Goodies - Sheldon Bosley Knight - Swalcliffe Park Horse TrialsLaura Gaydon, Director of Sheldon Bosley Knight, said “There were a number of local and professional riders competing at Swalcliffe Park Horse Trials last weekend, with many riders praising the organising team for the great “going” on the cross country and show jumping.  We are delighted to support a local affiliated Eventing competition and enjoy seeing the riders compete.

The skill of Event riding is precision and obedience in the dressage phase, agility and obedience in the show jumping phase and accuracy and bravery over the cross country fences.

It is the start of the 2019 eventing season, however Swalcliffe provides a very educational and encouraging cross country course at the lower levels of British Eventing – giving horses and riders the confidence to build on their run for the rest of the eventing season”.

Sheldon Bosley Knight Rural and Equestrian Departments provide professional property advice for all rural and equestrian properties, from farms and bare land through to pony paddocks and commercial equestrian and competition centres.

News from our Agricultural Team

SBK Equine Sponsorship Arena Board

Rural Property Sold

SBK Sold Sign on Arable Land Throughout 2017 our Land Agency Department has been busy selling a number of rural properties in South Warwickshire including large blocks of bare arable land which concluded negotiations by Best & Final Offers; a smallholding with a range of farm buildings and agricultural occupancy-tied farm bungalow and a number of smaller amenity and pony paddock parcels.

With care and attention to detail throughout a rural property transaction, we ensure that the process from initial marketing to legal completion is a smooth and stress-free transaction.

Without identifying the additional information required and knowledge of all of the different aspects of a property, the sale process can be delayed or in the worst case fall through, however our experienced Land Agency Department will be able to provide a full and professional service from start to finish.

Our thorough knowledge and experience in selling rural properties sets us apart from other sales agents, with particular attention to detail

  • Ownership of boundaries;
  • Preparation of appropriate sale plans;
  • Knowledge of easements and wayleaves and public rights of way;
  • Transfer of stewardship schemes;
  • Transfer of land and Entitlements to the incoming purchaser;
  • Provision of pre-Contract information such as RLR plans, cropping history and Nitrate Vulnerable Zone records;
  • Check ongoing occupational arrangements and advise on appropriate termination provisions or vacant possession opportunities.

Galloping Ahead

SBK Equine Sponsorship Arena BoardSBK’s Rural & Equestrian Department take big strides as they sponsor local Dressage & Event Riders Owen Cooper and Katie Richards. Based at Swalcliffe Park Equestrian, near Banbury, Oxfordshire, Owen and Katie have a string of top class Dressage and Event horses. Laura Gaydon, Director, who leads the firm’s Equestrian services, commented “we are thrilled to support Owen and Katie and wish them luck with their exciting string of horses”.

Sheldon Bosley Knight offer full management, sales and lettings, valuation, planning and general professional advice to both Rural and Equestrian property owners and can offer services to recreational or professional property owners or occupiers.

Arable Rental Market Still Strong

Field of crops growingOver the past two years our Rural Department have successfully let 5 holdings, by tender, totalling over 1250 acres of predominantly arable land in South Warwickshire and North Oxfordshire. The demand for Farm Business Tenancies in the local area is still high, and the level of rents offered demonstrates confidence in the arable sector, despite changes ahead with Brexit and subsidy payments.

Stratford Literary Festival Autumn 2017

Yotam Ottolenghi Book Sweet
Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh with SBK staff
L-R: Sarah Graham, Sue James, Laura Gaydon of SBK with Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh

SBK were delighted to be asked once again to sponsor the 2017 Stratford Literary Festival Autumn programme and as always, the choice of speakers did not disappoint.

The programme began in September with the delightful duo Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh, talking all things “Sweet”.

The audience were captivated by Yotam’s tales of the early days in his career and learned that his speciality at the time was whisking egg whites – something he clearly maintains to this day.

The pair ended their session by creating a superb fruit and meringue roulade that was auctioned off afterwards and raised £100 for the Literary Outreach Programme.

Jon Sopel at Stratford Literary FestivalThe BBC’s North America Editor Jon Sopel flew in from the US to appear on stage during October and regaled the audience with some highly amusing anecdotes of Trump’s America.

He provided some incredibly candid insights into American politics and his own up-close experiences of Trump’s America, from gun shops to riots and the gaudy splendour of Donald Trump’s billion dollar empire.

Shami Chakrabarti, currently the UK’s leading voice in human rights gave an impassioned talk on global gender inequality, arguing it as the greatest human rights abuse blighting our planet.

Fergal Keane, BBC Kenya Editor provided the Festival with a literary first when he joined live from Kenya via video link. No stranger to war, he grew up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and has reported on some of the most disturbing war zones during his career as a BBC journalist.

Suzanne James Rick Stein Laura Gaydon SBK
Suzanne James and Laura Gaydon of SBK with Rick Stein

Ending on another food note, Rick Stein took the audience on a culinary journey of California and Mexico, extolling the virtues of chillis and tortillas.

Despite his immense popularity and skills as a chef, restaurateur, author and TV presenter, he still feels he’s not a ‘proper chef’ and will one day be found out.  We very much doubt that.

Another successful festival over, we now look forward with anticipation to the Spring 2018 programme.
