Meet the team….. Rebecca Dean, head of lettings

Welcome to Becca Dean, Sheldon Bosley Knight’s (SBK) new head of lettings. Becca will be overseeing the SBK lettings operation and will be based across our offices in Coventry and Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Worcestershire. She brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise and we are delighted she has joined the team.

What is your role and what does your job entail?
No two days are ever the same in lettings which certainly keeps you on your toes and makes every day interesting. My initial focus will be getting to know the SBK business, the people and the markets in which we operate. My main duties will include assisting and supporting the lettings managers and their teams and supporting the growth and development of the SBK lettings business. I can’t wait!

What did you do before this job?
Before joining SBK, I was the group lettings director for Hunters Property Group. I had worked for the Hunters business for 17 years starting as a lettings negotiator/property manager in 2006 and progressing through the ranks. I was promoted to lettings director in 2014 running a five-branch operation until 2021 when I was given additional responsibility of another five offices and a lettings support department. I successfully ran 10 branches and generated some fantastic results for two years.

How did you get into the property industry and how long have you worked within it?
I am now in my 20th year in the property industry. My journey in residential lettings began in 2003 where I worked for a small independent for three years. I initially applied for the job in the belief it was a sales negotiator role but it turned out to be in lettings and it sounded a varied and interesting role which I was keen to learn about. There isn’t a role in lettings or a task I have not completed or had experience of and I just love the nitty gritty of the industry, even the constantly changing compliance side of things which can cause quite a headache.

What attracted you to working for SBK?
There are many things which stood out to me, but the main thing would have to be the culture which was described to me. I am keen to work for an independent business where people are at the forefront of what they do. SBK is a driven, forward thinking business and the growth just in recent months is impressive and certainly something I want to be part of going forwards.

What’s the best bit about your job?
Definitely the people. I am a people person and consider myself to be a great supporter, motivator and role model. I am always keen to encourage everyone in the team to take on a new challenge and step outside of their comfort zone whilst supporting and empowering them to be the best they can be.

What qualifications or training do you need to do this job?
Really, you need to eat, sleep and breath lettings! The support needed and day to day challenges which can arise need to be answered with confidence so it’s really just about the knowledge.
I have my Level 3 award in lettings and am a member of ARLA but I am always keen to expand and improve my knowledge and I am planning on getting started on my Level 4 very soon!

What motivates you to work hard?
My teams and the commitment to providing the best possible service to our clients.

Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by many people and many things but the main inspiration in my life has to be my two boys who are 11 and eight years old. They inspire me to be the best version of myself every day. I want them to see anything is possible and if you commit yourself to something and work hard the results are achievable.

What are your career goals?
Ultimately, I want to be a partner in a lettings business I have helped to grow and develop. My goal right now is to get to know the SBK business and people within and to start the growth journey of the lettings department. There is a huge amount of opportunity and I am extremely excited for the challenge ahead.

What do you do in your spare time?
As a mum of two energetic and busy boys I don’t have much spare time, but I love spending time and making memories with my boys which quite often involves watching them play football or heading to an Aston Villa game. I am a keen fitness fanatic and I enjoy the gym, boxing, running and walking in new places. I’m also a social butterfly and if there’s a girls get together or weekend away my name will definitely be on the list!

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?
To always treat both your clients and your staff in a way you would expect to be treated. Making people feel special and empowered is always a goal of mine.
